After the amazing Once Upon a Time season 4 premiere, we’re left with more questions than answers.

In the first episode of Once Upon a Time season 4, we were introduced to the Frozen characters, flashing back to their time in Arendelle, and seeing Elsa arrive in Storybrooke.

Regina came to terms with her murderous feelings towards Marian, while Mr. Gold discovered a mysterious artifact while honeymooning with Belle.

We loved the episode. But as Anna said, we now have one answer and lots of new questions. Here are the five things we can’t stop wondering about:

1. What happened to Anna?

At the end of the episode, we find out that Anna (Elizabeth Lail) decided to journey to the Enchanted Forest alone, to find out why her and Elsa (Georgina Haig)’s parents really left.

In Storybrooke, Elsa finds Anna’s necklace on display in Mr. Gold’s shop. We know that Elsa herself has been trapped in Rumpelstiltskin’s dungeon, but did he encounter Anna as well? And if so, what did he do to her?

Anna is obviously still alive (there’s a Frozen 2 coming out, after all!), but is she in Storybrooke or fairytale land? Has she reunited with Kristoff? Has Hans taken over Arendelle in Elsa’s absence? We can’t wait to find out!

2. What’s the deal with Mickey’s hat?

We were momentarily blinded by the incredible beauty of the universe-hat, an extremely bling version of the classic Mickey Mouse hat (which can also be seen in Mr. Gold’s shop, albeit that one is much shabbier). And then we had to nervously laugh off the idea that fairytale land actually exists in the hat-universe, and all the characters were originally very very tiny.

But seriously, what gives? Is it Sid from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice? Are Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck going to saunter into Storybrooke, flirting with Emma Howard the Duck style? Or is this a hint that Once Upon a Time is actually gonna go there and write Walt Disney into their story?!

Or perhaps it isn’t even Mickey’s hat – maybe there’s another wizard waiting in the wings? Dare we say… Merlin? (Ok, no, that’s probably just wishful thinking.)

3. Who wrote the fairytale book?

Again, we wonder: could the Once writers actually be inspired by all the Walt Disney biopics coming out at the moment, and writing the man himself into the show? In which case, prepare for some very angry Europeans, seeing as most of the Disney fairytales are adapted from the classic Grimm Brothers and H.C. Andersen stories.

Implying that there is one single author responsible for creating all of these characters is essentially like introducing a god-like figure into the Once Upon a Time mythology. And the hat-universe kind of supports the idea of a single creator responsible for the world of the show.

But maybe Once will turn the tables on us, and Regina will discover that the fairytale book was written by many different authors… and she has to track down each one.

(Bonus points if one of her pit stops is the Once Upon a Time writing room, where Ed Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are planning season 5. Hey, maybe they’ve been watching Supernatural.)

4. So… what will Emma tell Henry?

We never did get an answer to Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin)’s question. Emma (Jennifer Morrison) hasn’t told Henry (Jared Gilmore) about her relationship with Hook (Colin O’Donoghue), because she doesn’t know what to tell him.

Later in the episode she tells Hook to give her time, with a light kiss to soften the blow. But what does that mean? Are they “official” enough to introduce Henry to his cool new stepdad, or is Emma giving herself more time to decide how serious she wants the relationship to be? And we wonder how Henry will react, when Emma does eventually tell him.

5. Will Robin be able to stick to his code?

We were intrigued by Robin (Sean Maguire)’s admission that he was not always a good guy. We knew he was a thief, but even then, it was to save his wife and son.

While we wait for his next flashback episode, we can wonder about his present situation: caught between two (true) lovers, he’s made the choice easy for himself by sticking with Marian. He made a vow, he explained to Regina, and he has to live by his own rules.

But while he truly loves Marian and wants to keep his family together, there is no doubt that he is in love with Regina. And fighting those feelings might do more harm than good. Will he be able to stay away from Regina, until perhaps Marian makes the choice for him (it must be hard for her to know he’s moved on, even though they’ll undoubtedly try to deny it)? Or will he do the less honourable thing, and follow his heart?
