See stunning behind-the-scenes images of Elizabeth Mitchell as the Snow Queen in Once Upon a Time season 4!

When it was first announced that Lost and Revolution star Elizabeth Mitchell had been cast on Once Upon a Time, all we knew was that her character would be connected to the Frozen arc.

New behind-the-scenes stills reveal the character she will be playing: the Snow Queen! The inclusion of this character is an interesting twist to Frozen, which is of course an adaptation of H.C. Andersen’s fairytale The Snow Queen.

You can see the full set of pictures over at The Daily Mail.

With Elsa as the Snow Queen, turned good in Frozen, Mitchell’s Snow Queen is perhaps a more authentic (read: evil!) adaptation of that same character. It’s cool that Once Upon a Time is going to feature two separate incarnations of the same person.

Maybe the Snow Queen is somehow related to Elsa (Georgina Haig) and Anna (Elizabeth Lail)? This would explain why both she and Elsa (we assume) have the magical ability to control ice and snow.

Do you think this is the person Elsa and Anna’s parents were looking for when they journeyed to the Enchanted Forest? And will Anna encounter her when she’s off looking for answers?

We’re sure she has a hand in getting Elsa locked away in Rumple’s vault!

Mitchell’s character will first appear in the third episode of season 4, titled “Rocky Road,” which is allegedly an Emma flashback (wait what?! How’s that gonna work?).

Once Upon a Time season 4, episode 2 “White Out” airs this Sunday at 8/7c on ABC.
