Once Upon a Time season 3 is allegedly adding Rufio, the fan favourite character from the Peter Pan adaptation movie Hook. Come on everybody, all together now… Ru-fi-o! Ru-fi-o!

While the Once Upon a Time creators are adamant about keeping the casting of Peter Pan a secret, season 3 will see the addition of several other familiar characters.

And it looks like one of these is Rufio, an original character from the iconic Steven Spielberg movie Hook, which starred Robin Williams (Peter Pan), Dustin Hoffman (Hook) and Julia Roberts (Tinkerbell).

Rufio (Dante Basco) is the leader of the Lost Boys, who took over the group when Peter Pan left them to be with Wendy’s granddaughter Moira.

When Peter returns as a grown-up, Rufio refuses to believe that it’s him, but ultimately admits that he’s wrong, dying in Peter’s arms after being killed by Hook.

The character is perhaps best known for the catchy chant “Ru-fi-o! Ru-fi-o,” and whatever else happens, we hope that Once Upon a Time somehow manages to work this in!

Although Rufio is not a character of J.M. Barrie’s invention, TV Line now reports that Once Upon a Time will feature him as part of the Peter Pan/Neverland storyline in season 3.

He will be “heavily recurring,” and is currently being cast. Rufio is likely to interact with the extended Charming family (Emma, Snow, David, Regina and Rumpelstiltskin) as they search for Henry, who has been abducted by the Peter Pan shadow.

But will Rufio be a friend or a foe? After all, the Lost Boys seem to be serving the shadow Pan, but seeing as the actual Peter Pan is a different person, perhaps they aren’t as evil as they seem…

In related casting news, TV Line can also report that while Tom Ellis is unavailable to reprise his role as Robin Hood in season 3, the character might still return, played by a different actor.

Once Upon a Time season 3 premieres in the fall of 2013, airing Sundays on ABC. The title of the premiere episode was recently announced – find out what it is!
