Once Upon a Time took a hard look at everyone’s ‘Nasty Habits’ in tonight’s episode. Catch up on all the dirty tricks and secrets, past and present, happening in Neverland!

Old habits die hard. On Once Upon a Time those “Nasty Habits” stick around convincing the inhabitants of Neverland that it is not easy move forward from them. The focus of the episode follows Rumpel, Bae, and Henry as they revisit secrets of their past in Pan’s manipulative game.

Young Bae: In a cottage tucked away in the forest, young Baelfire sits safely away from the world his dark father tortures. Rumpel explains to his son that he cares for his safety too much to allow him into the unprotected world full of his enemies. Attempts to appease Bae with gifts taken from the poor do nothing to ease Bae’s desire to make friends and explore the world. When Bae goes missing, Rumpel follows a trail to a small village where he discovers that many of the boys are also missing. The Pied Piper draws the boys to the forest with his music that only the lost can hear.

Rumpel, able to hear the music, follows the boys to the woods and encounters a young boy he knew many years ago. Peter Pan. The warm welcome washes away as Pan aggressively attacks Rumpel reminding him of their immortality. Pan proposes an offer to Rumpel; ask Bae if he would rather stay in Neverland with Pan or go home with him. Not taking any chances, Rumpel grabs Bae and transports them both home, landing himself on Pan’s bad side. Bae pleas with his father to let him speak as Rumpel recounts all the evil that Pan is capable of. Bae informs his father that he heard the deal Pan offered to him and would have chosen to go home if Rumpel had only asked him. This is the moment that Rumpel lost Bae to the Lost Boys.

Father and Son: As Neal escapes from Felix, not too far away, Rumpel discusses his plan with Belle. The mask that Rumpel wears against the world is slowly stripped away as he realizes that the only way to save Henry and redeem his past is to sacrifice his life for Henry’s. Though noble, a reminder of his greatest flaw stumbles right into him as Neal stares directly into the face that pushed him to Neverland many years before. After convincing his father that he is in fact alive and his son, Neal demands that he no longer be called Bae: “It’s Neal now.” Neal has a plan to get Henry back by immobilizing magical beings with the ink from a giant squid that resides in the lake of the island.

Neal and Rumpel arrive at Pan’s camp soon after Pan discovers that his enchanted music does not affect Henry. He is not as lost as Pan would have hoped. Rumpel places the entire camp to sleep, as Bae comes out of the woods arrow aimed at Pan. When he fires, Pan catches the arrow mocking Neal for his lame attempt to coat the tip with the immobilizing ink. Neal catches Pan off guard, coating the entire arrow with the ink, knowing that Pan would grab the arrow before it pierces his chest. Despite the change in the game, Pan warns Neal that Rumpel’s intent is to undo the prophecy and kill Henry to preserve his own immortality.

Neal takes Henry away from Pan’s camp and confronts Rumpel. How can Neal trust him now that he knows his father has something to live for. Neal is back in his life, what is there to stop him from reverting back to his nasty habit of self-preservation? Neal asks for the Dark One Dagger as insurance that he will not kill Henry. Rumpel explains that his shadow took the dagger away as a security that Pan would not find it. Neal cannot move away from the habits he knows his father is capable of repeating. He grabs his father’s hands and coats them with the same immobilizing ink, taking Henry with him.

Neal and Henry do not make it far before Pan catches them and takes Henry away again. Henry awakes back in Pan’s camp as if nothing happened. Pan sits down with him and reminds him that his father is not only dead, but his dream of reuniting his family may not come true. Henry begins to question whether or not a new life as a Lost Boy with the ability to restore magic to the land of dreams can lead to new dreams Pan promises will come true. Pan starts to play his pipe and suddenly Henry is taken by the music. Pan’s plan to make Henry as lost as the rest begins.

Stars Will Guide You Home: Tinker Bell informs the search party that without an escape plan, there is no reason why they should even attempt to get Henry back. Hook and David agree that there will be a way home. David’s time on the island decreases with every hour that passes, but he resists telling Mary Margaret because the entire focus of the mission must remain on Henry. Hook leads the crew to Neal’s old dwelling where they examine drawings and crafts of a boy’s boredom to find a key home. Emma discovers that Neal carved a map into a coconut that, when lit internally, shows a map of the stars. Hook taught Neal the art of navigation, but he also taught him the importance of secrecy. The only person who can accurately read the map home is dead.

Emma becomes frustrated and storms out of the cave. Mary Margaret follows, but David assures her that Emma needs to work through her anger if they are ever going to move forward. David comforts an equally frustrated mother who cannot comfort her own daughter. Mary Margaret informs David that if he died she would never be able to move on. He demands that with the danger they face every second on the island she must promise him that she will move on and be happy if he meets his demise. The security that Mary Margaret feels with David becomes increasingly painful to watch each episode.

Was this episode a rough one or what? Neal and Rumpel’s painful reunion, Pan’s manipulation of Henry, and Emma’s recognition of Neal’s death made this week an emotional roller coaster! Next week, the focus moves to Hook and we could not be more excited! Check out the promo below to see Hook, not only with two hands, but also sharing some personal space with a lost girl!

Highlights:

•Regina describing Neal’s coconut map: “Am I supposed to be impressed that he made a nightlight?”

•Hook: “Alright, Emma Stone?” You can cut the tension with a knife!

•Pan’s Pied Piper melody sounds a lot like the Hogwarts music…
