Once Upon a Time is back with more twists than ever! Picking up right where the winter finale left off, read our full recap of tonight’s episode, “New York City Serenade!”

All is quiet in the kingdom of Phillip and Aurora, as the expecting couple prepares a lunch date in the forest. That is, until a menacing purple cloud dumps one batch of Storybrooke’s residents on their fun. Short version: They’re back.

Two proposals: Since her memory wipe, Emma has enjoyed the company of a man named Walsh. A seemingly normal guy, who adores Henry, takes Emma to the place they had their first date and plans to pop the question. As he scurries off to set the plan in motion, Hook swoops in, relentless in his attempt to coerce Emma back to Storybrooke. Realizing kissing her was not the best way to jog her memory, he presents her with an address. There she will begin to see that his story has some merit to it.

Walsh returns to the table with a sundae and turns the dish so Emma can see the ring. Emma runs out of the restaurant and asks him for some time to think it over. Taking a break from story books, Henry enjoys his downtime playing video games and hanging out with his mom. All that time around Emma rubs off on him as he put Walsh’s plan together on his own. Henry offers Emma his approval to say yes, explaining that making their duo a trio is an all right deal.

“Our” Kingdom: After a preliminary head count, the weary universe travelers fall under the Charming’s leadership. Regina, at Snow’s suggestion, joins them. Providing unity during this time is far better than carrying on conflict. The residents plan to set out immediately, all except Hook, whose plans take him to further shores. If Regina’s predictions were correct, then all possessions have also been transported back. The Jolly Roger is somewhere on the shores and Hook intends to take up his life of pirating once again. After all, without Emma, what ties does he have to the group? (Pause for a moment to reflect upon the loss of the David/Hook bromance.)

Eyes Everywhere: With Henry off to school, Emma heads over the address Hook gave her. As soon as Emma lets herself into the apartment, she knows exactly where he sent her. The dream catcher, and some mail, all point to the man who sent her to jail for his crimes: Neal. One item in particular, a camera with Henry’s name on the strap, sends her straight back to Hook and his wacky tale. Neal is not aware of Henry’s existence, so why would he have something with his name on it?

Once Emma hears him out for the third time, Hook offers her a potion that will restore her memory. Instead of taking a drink from a crazy man, she handcuffs him to a bench and he’s arrested for assault. Serving a short-lived sentence, Emma bails him out after developing the film from the camera. The pictures show Henry in Storybrooke and a slew of other memories she does not recall. Emma’s gut, the only sure thing she has, tells her to take a leap and drink the potion. Her memories flood back, and instantly the pirate standing in front of her is no longer a stranger.

Unfortunately, Emma now needs to explain to Henry that they will be leaving New York for Maine. Hook and Emma sit in the apartment talking over the particulars of their return, until it is time to break Walsh’s heart. Her rejection is met with an unusual reaction. Walsh transforms into a flying monkey, a clear sign something wicked has kept watch over her and Henry. Why can’t anything be simple for the Savior?

Fortress of Solitude: Along the journey to the kingdom, two important events occur. Belle and Baelfire discuss the possibility of Rumpelstiltskin’s survival. At the time of his death, the dagger was never seen. Without that present, Rumpel may have pulled off the ultimate escape plan. Neal’s original idea to go to Rumpel’s castle may begin to work its way back into his journey.

Regina falls behind the group to take care of a personal matter. Snow finds her off the path, burying her heart. Without Henry around, what chance does she have at ever truly being happy again? Snow convinces her that the reminder of Henry will keep Regina moving towards a life filled with purpose. It is what Henry would want. As they begin to rejoin to group, Regina and Snow are attacked by a flying monkey. The monkey manages to scratch Regina hard enough to draw blood, but escapes without a captive, thanks to Robin’s arrow.

The pack arrives at the castle to find a protective spell, not one of Regina’s doing, surrounding the land.

Back once more: In the present, Emma and Hook take Henry with them to Maine. Choosing to wait until Henry wakes up to start acclimating him to his new life, Emma takes off to find Mary Margaret and David. Unsure if their memories were wiped with the new curse, Emma hesitantly knocks on their door. She is met with a bear hug from her father and the explanation that they do not remember anything from the year or so they spent back in the Enchanted Forest. The only reason they know it has been a year… well, Mary Margaret’s very pregnant baby bump may have helped the timeline.

WICKED: The closing minutes of the episode finally reveal the villain audiences have been waiting to meet. Taking Regina’s blood, the Wicked Witch swirls it around inside a bottle filled with clear liquid, proclaiming that Regina may be an evil queen, but “wicked always wins.” (Cue goosebumps.)
