Once Upon a Time may not return to ABC until March, but creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz drop hints that one series regular will not live to see season 4!
Killing off a minor character is one thing, but when the creators of a show explicitly define that a series regular will not make the cut for season 4, it’s time to start theorizing who! In an interview with TV Line, Once Upon a Time creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis reveal major news about season 4 that will keep some minds occupied during the seven weeks until the show’s return.
The creators mention that “every series regular is a possibility – except for Robert Carlyle.” As you may recall Carlyle’s character, Rumpelstiltskin, dies in the winter finale when he sacrifices himself in order to kill Peter Pan. There is always the possibility for Carlyle to return to the show in some capacity, but that narrows down the pool of regulars to choose from.
With the second half of the season pegging Regina’s evil against a wicked foe from the west, her odds of perishing in a battle place her in a weakened position. But if we know anything about Regina, it is that she will push anyone in her way to protect her family and place of power.
Snow White and Prince Charming have a few cons working against them as well. Now that they are back in the Enchanted Forest apart from their daughter once again, it may be the time to start trying for baby number two. In the very real world of Hollywood, Ginnifer Goodwin is expecting a child with fiancé Josh Dallas. Could one of the pair be taking some time away from the show to care for their new little one away from the cameras? (Remember: Charming’s dream shade remedy is an easy out if it were to magically wear off!)
But what of our heroes, Emma and Henry? Where would the show go without the Savior and the Heart of the Truest Believer? This is the second time Emma is brought back to the Enchanted world unaware of her lineage, in order to save her family. There may be a limit to how many times Emma is able to pull off a rescue mission!
