Once Upon a Time‘s Jamie Chung speaks in a new interview about Mulan’s backstory and what we can expect in the episodes coming up.

Chung has spoken to ET Online about how much she loves playing the role, and the fun stuff she’s allowed to do as this fierce, female samurai.

However, we’re beginning to worry that the character won’t have a centric episode this year. “You’ll see a snippet of her past,” Chung teases. “Everything ties in very nicely this season, I’ll say that.”

She also previews the show in general, saying, “it gets stranger and darker. People are going to think we’re a cable show with how dark it gets.” Further, she reveals that the theme of the next two episodes is that, “what was once good can be used for evil, and vice versa.”

Finally, the actress talks about how much she enjoys doing the fight scenes. “I do feel more confident in a scene when my character has a weapon,” she says. “You’re much more aware of what your body is capable of doing: how fast you can run, how hard you can hit, how quickly you can evade a punch. You’re so much more conscious of that, and that confidence makes all the difference.”
