Once Upon a Time returns to San Diego Comic-Con with a look back on season 6 and plenty of details to get you amped for season 7.

Update (July 25): We will continue to update this post with all things Comic-Con 2017. You can now watch the opening scene of Once Upon a Time season 7 below!

Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are not strangers to Comic-Con. For the past six years, the creative forces behind Once Upon a Time have sat on stage talking curses, new characters, and surprises.

But this year, it feels like they are pitching an entirely new show. Once Upon a Time staples Colin O’Donoghue, Lana Parrilla, and Robert Carlyle were on hand to reintroduce the series to die-hard fans. Later in the panel, newcomers to the show, including Andrew J West, who plays the older Henry Mills, joined to spill some details about the reset.

Here’s what we learned!

Stay tuned for all videos from the panel. They will be uploaded as they become available!

‘Once Upon a Time’ Comic-Con Highlights

Edward Kitsis wants one thing to be clear — the last six years of the show did happen. History is not going to be erased. But while Regina, Mr. Gold, and Hook are still in the picture, they are not the same characters. Instead, they are reinterpretations.

Colin O’Donoghue mentions that there are still a few chapters of Hook’s life that he’d like to explore. One in particular is checking in on Killian’s mother. “Hook is a complicated character and it’s been great to explore the relationships of the past and the ones to come,” says O’Donoghue.

Why does Henry leave?

In a first look at season 7, Jared Gilmore reprises his role as Henry Mills. And boy, does he look mature! The teaser shows Henry explaining to Regina that he needs to set out and write his own story, one that does not take place in Storybrooke.

Part of that adventure? Finding a love as great as his grandparents. As we previously reported, this adventure will lead Henry to a new version of Cinderella, played by Dania Ramirez.

New faces — Lady Tremaine, Henry and Cinderella

Speaking of new characters, Gabrielle Anwar, Andrew J. West, and Dania Ramirez joined the panel to discuss joining the beloved series. Anwar mentioned that her daughter freaked out when she took the role, mentioning that she is a huge fan of the show.

A new character from the Disney canon is joining the action in season 7 — Tiana! Mekia Cox (whose plane was unfortunately cancelled) will take on the title role from The Princess and the Frog.

Additionally, Adelaide Kane will join the cast as a wicked stepsister and Rose Reynolds will bring us back to the long forgotten character of Alice. (RIP Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.)

Kitsis went on to say that there will be more familiar characters getting a revamp in season 7. Start brainstorming, Oncers!

LGBTQ storyline

Once Upon a Time creators confirm that a “prominent” LGBTQ story is in the works for season 7.

Here’s to hoping it gets more screen time and dedication than Mulan!

What is Mr. Gold’s first name?

In one of the funnier moments of the panel, Robert Carlyle speculated on Mr. Gold’s first name. What is his top choice? Barbara. Babs Gold does have a certain ring to it.
