Fairytale connoisseurs, see if you can help us find out the alter egos of two Once Upon a Time season 2 newcomers!

TV Line brings details of the first role, which if their deduction is correct is to be played by actor Ethan Embry (officially cast as “a mysterious Storybrooke visitor”):

Embry fits the description of a character named Bennett that the show was recently casting. The mid-30s guy next door-type is sweet, charming, intelligent and funny — at least on the surface. Beneath the surface, he possesses a darkness, as well as a willingness to fight to the bitter end for his beliefs and (this is where things get interesting) to prove that his way of life is in the right.

Interesting! If Neal Cassidy doesn’t turn out to be Bae, could it be this guy? Are we just seeing Bae in every possible male character that comes to the show?

Yes, actually, we are, and this other new character is no exception! SpoilerTV reports that Once Upon a Time is currently casting a character called Gerhardt, who will appear in episode 2×12. He is described as, “a handsome, idealistic military man in his late 20s, with a family he loves.”

Okay, so maybe this guy isn’t Bae. But the military aspect of his character makes us wonder if he could be Mulan’s original love Shang, and that the show is setting up a Mulan-centric episode (please let this be the case)? Or – and this one may be reaching a little – could they be casting King Arthur for a Lancelot backstory?

Share your theories about both of these roles! Is the first character a regular human who comes to Storybrooke with a separate agenda, or is he another character who has made his way to the real world separately from the ones who were brought to Storybrooke by Regina?

Once Upon a Time returns Sunday with 2×07 “Child of the Moon,” a much-anticipated Ruby-centric episode, which will air at 8/7c on ABC.
