Once Upon a Time season 5, episode 4, “The Broken Kingdom,” tests Emma’s resilience against the lure of the Darkness. Can Hook get to her before it’s too late?

We understand Captain Swan fans are still not quite over the events of this past weekend’s Once Upon a Time. But there is always Camelot, right? Unfortunately, things are not looking so bright for the couple there either.

Rumpelstiltskin creeps further and further into Emma’s subconscious until it seems she can no longer act without his influence. She even takes up a weaving habit of her own while in Camelot. Instead of spinning straw into gold, Emma chooses to revisit a familiar symbol from her past, dreamcatchers, which she uses to decorate the windows of her tower.

The dreamcatchers are not doing a great job of keeping dark thoughts from entering Emma’s mind. In this week’s Once Upon a Time season 5, episode 4, “The Broken Kingdom,” Emma’s visit with Rumpel leads her down a path of near destruction. What will she do when she is confronted with her dagger? And who could she hurt when they accidentally get in her way?

In Storybrooke, Emma is too far gone for Hook to save using just a wink and a smile. The Emma Swan he fell in love with is lost to the Darkness and the only way to bring her out of it is to set a new plan in motion. A plan that involves breaking and entering, a possible new bromance, and maybe even betraying those who are trying to save Emma in their own way. Emma has her own plan to focus on, this time in cooperation with the snarky voice inside her head.
