It has been a long and winding road for the adaptation of the classic fifties Beat novel. Back in 1968, when he was just cutting his teeth in the business, Francis Ford Coppola bought the film rights to the book.

Then last autumn the film was shot by the Brazilian Walter Salles (Central Station, The Motorcycle Diaries). The cast includes Sam Riley (Brighton Rock), Garrett Hedlund (TRON: Legacy), Kristen Stewart (Twilight), Amy Adams (The Muppets), Terrence Howard (Iron Man), Kirsten Dunst (Melancholia), Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) and Viggo Mortensen (A Dangerous Method).

‘The Telegraph’ reports that the film is likely to be shown at the Cannes film festival this May and be released in cinemas on September 21.
