Tonight, we leave the ruins of Annville behind and embark on a quest for answers. Before we hit the gas, let’s take a look back at some of most staggering moments from Preacher’s brazen first season!

5) Tulip’s Homemade Bazooka

Right off the bat, we’re introduced to the insane badassery that is Tulip O’Hare (Ruth Negga) as she brawls at high speed through cornfields and henchmen. The insanity reaches its peak when Tulip makes a bazooka out of coffee cans and other household items to annihilate her enemies. We hear rumbles and the screams of her adversaries through the cellar door when suddenly, in a gleeful triumph, Tulip assures us it’s all over, though the fun has just begun.

4) The Bunny Noise

Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) gives us the first glimpse of his dark past when he allows himself to engage in a bar fight with Donnie Schenck (Derek Wilson) and company. After threatening to beat his own son (Thomas Barbusca), Preacher gives Donnie the beating of a lifetime. He further taunts Donnie with the story of the bunny caught in a bear trap and forces him to mimic the same noise by snapping his arm. Donnie is humiliated as the town dubs him “The Bunny Man.”

3) It’s just meat!

After witnessing the heartbreaking tragedy that afflicted Odin Quincannon’s family, we get a disturbing glance at his current state of mind. Losing your entirely family in a freak accident would cause anyone to lose their grip on reality. However, when you’re already as unhinged as Quincannon, the result can be devastating. Odin completely lost his faith in God and instead began to worship the god of what is tangible, i.e. the God of Meat when he took his daughter’s body apart and found no soul, only meat.

2) Go to Hell, Eugene!

After Preacher uses Genesis to force the town to forgive Eugene, he is overwhelmed with even more guilt than before. By refusing to allow himself to be forgiven, he enrages Preacher when he insists Eugene is being hard to please. After telling Preacher he sinned by cheating God, Jesse makes an irrevocable mistake and damns Eugene to hell with the Word of God. With our jaws on the floor, we watch the church pamphlet fall as we’re reminded that “with God, all things are possible,” even condemning an innocent child.

1) God is missing!

The most astonishing moment of the first season was when Jesse commanded the imposter God to tell the town of Annville where he truly was. The answer was a distressing mix of intrigue and mania; God left heaven and hasn’t been seen since. This was the tipping point for the doomed town, as they too gave up on their Lord and committed to sin before being blown completely off the face of the Earth. The first season ended with a colossal cosmic joke that was profoundly Preacher and I personally cannot wait to see what bizarre moments await us next season.

The second season of Preacher beings tonight at 10 p.m. on AMC with “On the Road” and continues tomorrow night with “Mumbai Sky Tower”!
