Offred has been through a lot in the first two season of The Handmaid’s Tale, but in season 3, she’s rising up and organizing against Gilead.

Be warned: Handmaid’s Tale season 2 spoilers ahead.

It can be tough to watch The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu. The show is heavy, sometimes it can hit far too close to home, and the constant barrage of horrors experienced by the women of Gilead can feel like too much to watch.

And after last season when Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) literally had her finger cut off after she attempted to organize the Wives to ask her husband and the other men in charge if women could retain the right to read the Bible (something she requested by reading the Bible in front of everyone in the court), we realized the real truth in Gilead. That truth is, regardless of your rank as a Handmaid all the way up to a Wife of a Commander, if you’re a woman in Gilead, you’re not safe.

And it is that reality that has June (aka Offred, played by Elizabeth Moss) where she is now, back in Gilead after refusing safe passage to Canada, but sending her and Nick’s daughter to Canada with Emily (aka Ofglen, played by Alexis Bledel).

June is sticking in Gilead to rescue her daughter, Hannah (Jordana Blake) and anyone else she can manage, and she’s getting organized. See for yourself in the season 3 trailer.

Mom’s got work! June knows she’s taking her life in her hands by returning to Gilead, so she isn’t wasting a second of it. She’s getting organized and gathering as many people together as she can to fight the system.

It’s not totally clear, but it looks as though she’s living as the Handmaid in Joseph Lawrence’s house (Bradley Whitford). In case you forgot, Lawrence is the repentant creator of the entire Gilead system, attempting to make amends by helping the Resistance dismantle it.

In addition to having Lawrence as her ally, she’s also amassing help from the powerful women around her. She’s got the help of the underground system of Marthas (who helped her get in place for her ultimately abandoned escape to Canada), Serena, and it even looks like Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) might be joining the fight.

The Handmaid’s Tale faced a lot of backlash last season for June’s choice to return to Gilead, but it looks like that risky move is going to pay off. Season 3 looks completely badass, and it looks like there are going to be some much-needed glimmers of hope (for instance, we absolutely caught those shots of Emily and baby Holly/Nicole seemingly safe in Canada, and June’s husband Luke, played by O-T Fagbenle, holding the baby).

We can’t wait for season 3 to begin on Hulu, and we can’t wait to see what June and her ever-growing army do to dismantle Gilead. You can watch the Resistance rise when The Handmaid’s Tale premieres on Hulu June 5.
