If you’ve been craving an Octopath Traveler PC port, Square Enix has heard your plea, even if they retracted the announcement shortly after its reveal.

Recently, Square Enix games have found a home on PC, with most if not all of their titles eventually being ported over to the Steam marketplace. Now, it’s time for Octopath Traveler PC to get some ported love.

Originally announced on a now deleted Square Enix blog post, the Octopath Traveler PC port was announced with the following words:

“We have some very exciting news for PC gamers. Octopath Traveler is coming to Steam on June 7, 2019! So, yknow, add it to your Wishlist now.”

With a summer release date, it’s likely that Square Enix is intending on hyping up the port’s marketing sometime soon, even if they later decided that they announced it too early.

The now deleted blog post read, “The critically-acclaimed RPG has previously only been available on Nintendo Switch, so this will be the first time non-Nintendo owners can experience the game.”

Octopath Traveler was a pretty attractive third-party JRPG for Nintendo Switch owners, and may have contributed to the portable home console hybrid’s JRPG exclusivity trend. Now that that ground has been established, Square Enix seems to be seeking to further spread the love for the critically acclaimed turn-based strategy game by extending its release to the Steam marketplace.

Octopath Traveler released for the Nintendo Switch in July of 2018, just a little over a year after the Nintendo Switch hit the market. The game featured 8 playable protagonists, all with unique story paths and classes.

Last September, the development team behind the original Octopath Traveler announced that a sequel to the JRPG was in the works, with it later being revealed that this title was actually a prequel game for mobile devices. Octopath Traveler: Tairiku no Hasha is the Japanese title of the iOS and Android devices prequel, which translates to “Champions of the Continent.” The prequel game will feature appearances by the characters of the original game, and has a general 2019 Japanese release date.
