Despite the original only arriving in summer 2018, Octopath Traveler 2 is now being discussed by the creators of the JRPG.

The hit game Octopath Traveler is a JRPG that captured audiences all around the world for its intense world building and unique eight-character structure. With a game as popular and critically renowned as Octopath Traveler, it makes sense that Square Enix employees are already talking about the sequel.

In an interview with Famitsu, Square Enix game developer Tomoya Asano had the following to say about a DLC and Octopath Traveler 2:

“Regarding paid DLCs, we had decided from the beginning not to create them, so there are no plans right now. And as for a sequel, we still cannot say anything concrete yet, but we’ve just started talks on how it ought to be.”

When asked if Octopath Traveler 2 was going to take a while to develop, Asano responded, “I think it’s going to be like that. However, our team has also become a division (the 11th Business Division), and we’ve obtained more staff members. I think we want to release some sort of game that can be enjoyed by everyone every year from here on.”

The dev team behind Octopath Traveler was also involved in the game’s sister series, Bravely Default, meaning we could be seeing more sequels there as well.

If Octopath Traveler is to become a series as opposed to a standalone game, as it seems will happen, it will be interesting to see if they follow the same characters, or simply set the sequel in the same universe that was established in the first game.
