Robert Zemeckis’ upcoming adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches has added another huge name to its cast!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Octavia Spencer has officially joined the cast of the upcoming book-to-film adaptation.

Spencer joins previously announced cast member Anne Hathaway, who boarded the film just last month.

Hathaway will be playing the role of the grand high witch in the upcoming adaptation — a role originally portrayed by Angelica Huston the last time Roald Dahl’s beloved book was adapted in 1990.

Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on who Spencer will play. With that in mind, we’ll be looking forward to seeing if she’ll end up playing one of the many witches looking to rid England of its children, or if she’ll assume the role of one of the other adults in the story.

Spencer isn’t the only new name to board the project.

The upcoming adaptation has also found a screenwriter in none other than Black-ish creator Kenya Barris.

Barris will be co-writing the script alongside Zemeckis. The pair will be working off of an early draft written by Guillermo del Toro, who was originally attached to helm the project before Zemeckis took over.

del Toro is still involved, though. He’ll be serving as producer on the project alongside fellow Oscar winner Alfonso Cuaron.

First published in 1973, The Witches tells the story of a seven-year-old boy who accidentally stumbles on a witch convention. After discovering their master plan to rid England of all its children, the boy sets out to stop the witches before it’s too late.

There’s currently no word on when we can expect The Witches to hit the big screen.
