Octavia Spencer and the director of The Help a reuniting for a new film that’s bound to pack on the suspense!

According to Variety, Academy Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer is set to join forces with The Help helmer Tate Taylor on an upcoming film called Ma.

Don’t expect Ma to be cut from the same cloth as Spencer and Taylor’s last film together! Instead, the film, which is being produced by Jason Blum’s Blumhosue Productions (The Purge, Get Out), is being pegged as horror meets psychological thriller.

Though not much is know about the upcoming film, Deadline reports that Spencer is set to play “a lonely woman who befriends a group of teenagers with torturous consequences for the kids.”

Meanwhile, Taylor offered up some choice words on what viewers can expect when the film hits theaters.

“I wouldn’t call her a villain,” said Taylor of Spencer’s Ma role in an interview with Variety. “It’s definitely the most complex character she’s ever played, if I may be so bold as to say that.”

In the same interview, the director also discussed how excited he is that their new project together will feature Spencer assuming a role unlike those she’s played in recent years.

As much as we’ve loved seeing Octavia Spencer shine in award show darlings like Hidden Figures and The Shape of Water, we’ll be looking forward to seeing her step into a project that’s completely different to what she’s known for.

Ma, which currently has no set release date, also stars Juliette Lewis, Luke Evans, Diana Silvers, Corey Fogelmanis, McKayley Miller, Dante Brown, and Gianni Paolo.
