A new drama starring Oscar winner Octavia Spencer is officially in the works at Apple!
Deadline reports that Apple has officially picked up a new thriller drama series called Are You Sleeping. The new series, which stars Academy Award-winner Octavia Spencer, will be produced by none other than Reese Witherspoon’s production company, Hello Sunshine.
The upcoming crime drama is based off of Kathleen Barber’s true-crime novel of the same name and will be written and spearheaded by The Good Wife and Justified alum Nichelle Tramble.
The series revolves around America’s obsession with true-crime podcasts. According to the synopsis, Are You Sleeping is set to challenge “its viewers to consider the consequences when the pursuit of justice is placed on a public stage.”
As the project is still in its developing stages, there’s no word yet on who exactly Spencer will be playing when the series makes its grand debut.
We do, however, have a few more details with regards to who else is involved with the new series behind the scenes.
On the Hello Sunshine front, the series will be produced by Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter and Tramble. Meanwhile, Spencer herself will also receive an executive producing credit through her own production company, Orit Entertainment.
Are You Sleeping has also tapped none other than Serial podcast host/creator/producer Sarah Koenig to serve as a consultant on the show. Given her firsthand experience with true-crime podcasts, we’re sure Koenig’s expertise will make the show all the more realistic.
There’s no word yet on when we can expect the series to premiere, but Apple is expected to give Are You Sleeping a straight-to-series order.
