The female-led Ocean’s Eleven spinoff film, Ocean’s Eight, has found the villain who will be playing opposite Sandra Bullock.

Ocean’s Eight continues to be a bit enigmatic, but so far we do know it’s neither a reboot nor a sequel to the ‘original reboot,’ the Steven Soderbergh trilogy based on the 1960 film of the same name.

Rather, it’s a spinoff, focusing on a separate heist group, led by Sandra Bullock’s character. She is rumored to be Danny Ocean’s (George Clooney) sister, which would explain away the ‘Ocean’s’ part of the title without directly involving Danny himself.

The impressive cast includes Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Awkwafina, and Sarah Paulson.

Now, according to Variety, Damian Lewis (Homeland, Dreamcatcher) is in talks to play the main villain in the film.

Variety says of the dynamic: “Bullock’s character is the leader of a group of thieves and cons who try to pull off a major heist. Lewis will play Bullock’s ex-lover and the target of the gang’s robbery.”

Gary Ross, who also co-wrote the script with Olivia Milch, is directing, and the film is set to release on June 8, 2018.

Ocean’s Eight is the latest in a long line of movies getting a reboot of source, and is one of the most recent to also see a female-centric cast take the the reins, such as Ghostbusters did earlier this year.

Ghostbusters was met with a fair amount of criticism from fans of the original franchise, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Ocean’s Eight also had some similar hurdles to jump over.
