She-Ra called upon the fans in attendance at New York Comic Con to introduce their new trailer and over 10 minutes of clips from the series.

With only a teaser trailer with which to make a judgement on the reboot of the ’80s cartoon, it was hard to get a true sense of what Executive Producer Noelle Stevenson wanted to do with the property. The She-Ra panel at NYCC gave fans a taste of everything from Adora and Catra’s friendship, Glimmer and Bow’s bond, and the conflict Adora faces turning her back on one aspect of her life and being open to another.

Watching the transformation of Adora into She-Ra on the big screen of Hammerstein Ballroom sent a silence over the crowd, immediately followed by a buzz of excitement. There is no doubt this series will not only pay the original work proper due, but also deliver an equally empowering new story.

As the key art shows, the divide between the dark and the light with She-Ra in the center is going to play heavily into the first season. Raised by the so-called “evil Horde,” Adora never knew of the goings on of her people outside the confines of the place she called home. She grew up training, working her way toward becoming Force Captain, and hanging out with her best friend Catra.

But when she discovers the Sword of Protection and her destiny, Adora begins to take a look at the life she thought she knew. It also helps that she meets Glimmer and Bow, two friends who have had their fair share of troubles with the Horde.

In the clips shown to the room, totaling 10 minutes worth of footage, the selections highlighted four major features.

First, the transition from princess singular, to princesses plural. The Princesses of Power, when the series picks up, are scattered and not a cohesive unit. Possessing a unique skill set across the board from manipulating water, to being incredibly tech-savvy (with both hands and hair).

In one particular clip from the series the princesses and Sea Hawk come together to perform a heist. Laced with plenty of humor, the scene also shows the leadership role that Adora is struggling to step into. But the princesses rally behind Adora, working with her even if it means swimming in the sewers for a bit.

Second, be prepared to want Glimmer and Bow to be your best friends. Glimmer is the spirited Princess of Bright Moon, who is trying to make her mark. Bow is the ever-optimistic sidekick, who holds his own in battle and loyalty to Glimmer. Their friendship, and their acceptance of Adora, will be a great arc to watch in season 1.

Oh, and did we mention that Bow has two dads? He does!

Third, the evil Horde, the looming big bad, is laced with mystery. A brief glimpse of Shadow Weaver and Hordak gave the impression that not everyone in the Horde is entirely sure what goes on behind closed doors. In one particular scene, Catra is brought to meet Hordak and she is positively shaking with fear. But Hordak rewards rather than disciplines her.

Finally, Catra and Adora’s journey apart is going to provide the crux of Adora’s arc this season. Adora and Catra spend nearly every waking hour together. So what happens to that bond when one of them takes a step back and chooses a new path in life? It is a coming of age story that tackles the painful realization that going your own way might be better than sticking to the status quo.

She-Ra doesn’t hit Netflix until November 16 and we cannot wait for more!
