Lance Bass is responding to rumors that a ‘N Sync reunion is in the works for this Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Bass took to his SiriusXM radio show, appropriately titled “Dirty Pop,” to address the report that broke in the NY Daily News.

“Justin Timberlake is getting the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award this Sunday at the awards, so of course people are automatically going to think we’re going to be there performing, but this is exactly how it happened and I knew these rumors were going to fly,” he explained.

Bass then confirmed, as was reported, that he and three of the other members were together in Miami to watch Timberlake’s concert over the weekend, and that he figured a photo he shared on Instagram of the guys would fuel speculation.

“I think that’s what started the rumor that there’s going to be this big reunion with ‘N Sync,” he said. “It’s amazing to see the reaction out there on Twitter and social media – how many people are supporting ‘N Sync. It’s so nice to see because when we ended things 10 years ago, there was no social media, there was no Twitter, but it’s so cute to see how many people are supporting [us], and ‘N Sync was even trending.”

Bass’ comments don’t directly confirm or deny whether a reunion is in the works. The other big question is: Will they perform? At this point, anticipation is so high that a simple appearance with Timberlake at the VMAs would not satisfy fans. A song must be performed.

The MTV Video Music Awards will air this Sunday at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific.
