It’s battle of the bands, as we go back through the decades to find the photos of ‘N Sync and the Backstreet Boys that they really don’t want us to remember.

It’s no secret that at Hypable, we love boy bands. But we were sad to see in all the recent talk of reunions and comeback tours that one major point has been passed by. The Backstreet Boys recently celebrated their 20th anniversary as a band, and ‘N Sync “reuinited” (we use that term loosely) at the VMAs. So what was the disappointment?

These days, they only wear suits.

Seriously. It’s like they are ashamed of their denim/velour/bedazzled past. Like they want us to forget about that time they dyed their hair pink, or all wore matching outfits, or rocked some silver lipstick.

So we are grateful to have these 23 beautiful photos, documenting the glory years of these (then) teen sensations. Who wants to see Justin Timberlake in a suit and tie (get it?)? We would much rather reminisce about that time he got cornrows.

‘N Sync and the Backstreet Boys might wish these weren’t around anymore – but we sure are glad that they are.

Backstreet Boys vs. ‘N Sync

‘N Sync could be very dedicated to a trend, like overalls…

…or sports uniforms.

The Backstreet Boys would mix it up, by wearing overalls AND uniforms. Woah.

But two can play at that game.

Sometimes they were just downright adorable (and yet totally dorky).

And sometimes they just forgot to pass on the message of “no jeans today.”

‘N Sync showed that shiny was trendy.

But the Backstreet Boys seriously out-shined them.

And so ‘N Sync took it way too far. Like, outer space too far.

They sang “in sync,” they danced “in sync,” and boy did they dress “in sync.”

The Backstreet Boys tried this trick a few times.

But for the most part they stayed a little more individual.

On Page 2, (oh yes, there’s more) the Backstreet Boys are caught with their pants around their ankles – and you didn’t think we forgot about the cornrows, did you?

When one member of ‘N Sync got a questionable hairdo, they all did.

And when one member of ‘N Sync wore weird hat, at least two others joined in.

You didn’t think we’d forget the cornrows, did you?

And what about that silver lipstick.

When one member of the Backstreet Boys wore a ridiculous hat, well, they didn’t stop him.

At one point, ‘N Sync gave up the matchy-matchy dressing for something a little more personal.

We’ll let you decide if that was a good idea.

Remember when it was cool to have bedazzled flames on your jacket? Yeah, neither do we.

The Backstreet Boys did their best…

…and we can’t begin to explain what’s going on here…

…but seriously, how do you compete with this?
