Zachary Quinto is basically unrecognizable in his role in AMC’s new show NOS4A2, and a new time-lapse video shows the actor’s transformation.

AMC is bringing Joe Hill’s beloved horror novel, NOS4A2, to life in a brand new series. And while we’re excited to see this world come to the small screen, one of the most surprising things has been the images of Zachary Quinto as the evil and immortal Charlie Manx.

In a new time-lapse video, we see the huge amount of work that goes into making Quinto look like Manx. And as it turns out, it takes quite a lot to make an attractive actor look like a terrifying immortal who feeds on the souls of children. Go figure.

The huge amounts of makeup and facial prosthetics that go into making Quinto look like Charlie Manx is nothing short of impressive. He looks absolutely unrecognizable once his makeup is complete, and he brings Charlie Manx to life in a truly chilling way.

For those unfamiliar with NOS4A2, it follows a young woman named Vic McQueen (Ashleigh Cummings) who has the supernatural ability to find lost things. Her ability puts her directly into Charlie Manx’s path, where she learns he has been feeding off of children’s souls and placing what remains into a place called “Christmasland,” a place in Manx’s imagination where it is always Christmas Day and it’s against the law to be unhappy. Vic works to defeat Manx and save his victims without getting killed or losing her mind in the process.

It’s a chilling tale, to be certain, but fans of the book know it’s a truly engaging piece of horror. We’re so excited to see how AMC brings this book to television, and if the amount of work that has gone into Quinto’s appearance as the show’s antagonist is any indication, this show is going to be amazing.

NOS4A2 premieres on AMC June 2.
