The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus is in good spirits after a real-life walker attack, when an overzealous fan bit him at a convention.

The phrase “don’t bite the hand that feeds you” took on a whole new meaning.

Over the weekend, Norman Reedus attended a convention for the popular AMC series in New Jersey (incidentally titled Walker Stalker Con), doing all the usual con stuff: panels, meet-and-greets, and photo ops.

As we know, fandom is an intense place, and sometimes, meeting your idols can be overwhelming. And one fan was so overwhelmed by meeting Norman Reedus — whom she apparently likes to imagine is her husband — that she actually bit him!

Blastr reports that the woman approached Reedus and Michael Rooker (who plays Reedus’ on-screen brother Merle), had her picture taken, and then proceeded to bite her idol, leading Rooker to explain, “What the f*** was that?!” The fan was then escorted away, and banned from the con.

This incident pretty much represents rabid fandom at its worst, but luckily for The Walking Dead fans, Reedus appears both unharmed and unperturbed, if a little ruffled.

He posted the following image to his Instagram, reminding fans to, uh, not bite him (just in case that wasn’t obvious):

Um please don't

The fan posted an apology to her own Instagram, along with the photo from the incident, via The Mary Sue:

And, look. We all get obsessive, and paying hundreds of dollars to meet your idols definitely upsets the fan-actor power balance even further. This might be the most important moment in a fan’s life, and to an actor, a photo op takes place in the blink of an eye.

But fandom at large obviously gets a bad rep exactly because of incidents like this. So please keep this in mind for future celeb run-ins: If you’re behaving like a mindless, brain-hungry zombie, you’re probably not gonna leave the best impression on the person you admire.

Let’s all be civil to each other, whatever level of fame we happen to have.
