Move over, Wii U: Nintendo has announced its new gaming system, and the NX sounds pretty exciting!

At a Tokyo press conference Tuesday morning, Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata gave us our first details about the gaming giant’s brand new console system.

Iwata said, “As proof that Nintendo maintains strong enthusiasm for the dedicated game system business, let me confirm that Nintendo is currently developing a dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept.”

We’re not sure whether NX will end up being its official name, but it does kind of have a nice ring to it, don’t you think?

Of course, it’s worth noting that Iwata hasn’t officially named the NX a “console,” and there is some speculation that it is in fact another handheld, or an online cloud-based gaming system.

But considering that the NX is described as, “new hardware with a brand new concept,” Eurogamer believes that we’re looking at a new home console as opposed to a mobile device.

Since the Wii system debuted almost 10 years ago, with the Wii U successor building on the same technology, it makes sense for Nintendo to be working on a brand new system — hopefully with graphics to rival Sony’s recently released PS4.

And with Nintendo releasing its first semi-open-world Zelda game, it’s also likely that they’ll be looking to develop a more powerful machine on which to play it.

More details are expected to be revealed next year, so this console is likely still a few years away. The Zelda game is set to be released in the latter half of 2015.

In the press conference, it was also revealed that Nintendo has partnered with Japanese mobile game specialist DeNA to begin developing mobile Nintendo games. (Well, there goes all our train-time productivity.)
