Nintendo’s mysterious new “NX” device could be yours in 2016!

The Nintendo NX is Nintendo’s new gaming system, branded not as a traditional console, but rather as a multimedia device. It was first announced in March of this year, with Nintendo calling it, “a dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept.” But the gaming giant has kept silent on the NX ever since.

Now, Eurogamer claims that Nintendo has begun handing out software kits to developers, and rumor has it the company is aiming to get the NX into players’ hands some time in 2016.

Sources claim the NX will include, “a mobile unit that could either be used in conjunction with the console or taken on the road for separate use.”

This might be Nintendo’s recently patented touch-screen based controller, which could also serve as an independent hand-held device, similar to the Wii U.

Unlike the Wii U, however, the NX is said to use “industry-leading chips,” meaning that we could finally be looking at a Nintendo console matching the quality of its X-Box and Playstation family rivals.

Eurogamer speculates that Nintendo will announce the NX at E3 in June 2016, with a Christmas 2016 launch date.

Meanwhile, we’re still waiting for details on that new Zelda game, which was originally planned for the Wii U but is now expected to launch with the NX.

Recently, we reported that Nintendo had named a new president after the tragic passing of Satoru Iwata. Former Pokémon Company president Tatsumi Kimishima is now at the wheel, and we’re entering a new era of Nintendo — which includes theme parks, mobile games, and maybe even movies!
