Amidst several big changes at Nintendo, the gaming giant has named the man who’ll try to fill Satoru Iwata’s shoes.

Two months ago, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata passed away, cancer claiming his life at the much too young age of 55.

IGN announced today that Iwata’s successor has finally been found: Tatsumi Kimishima, former president for Nintendo of America (NoA), will be assuming the role of President and Representative Director for Nintendo, having been appointed by the Board of Directors.

Kimishima has a long history with Nintendo, starting out in the Pokemon branch (The Pokemon Company Inc.) and working his way into central management. He was also heavily involved during the GameCube years.

Notably, as IGN points out, Kimishima served as CEO and chairman of the board of NoA for a time, but in 2013 he passed the torch to Satoru Iwata.

Kimishima’s previous involvement with The Pokemon Company International is hardly coincidental: just last week, we learned that Nintendo is working to bring a Pokémon game to the iPhone, which will give players the thrilling ability to “discover” Pokémon in the real world.

This is only one of many changes coming to Nintendo: the corporation also recently announced their intent to re-enter the movie business, after their catastrophic attempt to make a Super Mario Bros. movie in 1993. And of course we’re still waiting for updates about the brand new gaming system they’re developing, titled the “NX.”

Finally, Nintendo is also working on bringing theme park attractions based on its properties to Universal parks. Certainly, Kimishima is taking the reins at a very interesting time in the game company’s life, and we hope to see him do great things!
