Let’s get a good stretch! Fitness Boxing is the latest in Nintendo’s exercise games that hopes to follow the hype of the Wii Fit series.

Fitness Boxing releases for the Nintendo Switch on January 4, 2019, and is being touted as the perfect workout tool for those looking to fulfill their New Year’s resolutions.

Unlike the Wii Fit series, there aren’t any add-on periphery, as the Joy-Cons serve as the titular boxing gloves.

Fitness Boxing takes a page from the book of Just Dance, in that players get a workout from waggling and punching the remotes in the air timed to pop music.

Nintendo even went so far as to call out their intended audience of Fitness Boxing: “For busy moms that might not have time to head to the gym, this game is a great way to get in a quick workout no matter where you are.”

Wii Fit was all the rage back when it released just before Christmas 2007. Players needed to purchase the game with a balance board, in which the game would judge your ability to hold poses, count pushups, and allow you to play fun workout mini-games. Wii-Fit Trainer even went on to be a surprise character on the fighter roster of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS.

With the barrier to entry a bit lower for Fitness Boxing, it’s likely that Nintendo is aiming for this new workout series to be just as, if not more, successful as the once insanely popular Wii Fit series.
