In a new clip from Nikita season 4, episode 3 “Set-Up,” Ryan tries to convince Michael and Nikita that Birkhoff isn’t actually Birkhoff.

We learned in the previous episode that Amanda and The Shop have been kidnapping VIPs and replacing them with doubles. Nikita managed to unmask FBI Deputy Director Matthew Graham as a double, but Ryan suspected there might also be a double in the NSA.

However, Amanda implied that she has another deep cover double in place whose mission has yet to begin. Cue a cut to Birkhoff, who lies to Ryan about finding the likely NSA double. Now it seems that Ryan has caught onto some other suspicious behavior from Team Nikita’s resident tech guru.

Though it’s clear that Michael and Nikita aren’t as convinced as Ryan that something is going on with Birkhoff, they’ve learned to trust his instincts and Nikita steels herself to investigate.

The official synopsis for the third episode of the season reads:

ALEX IS CAPTURED — Tensions continue to escalate between the United States and Pakistan after Amanda (Melinda Clarke) plants evidence that Pakistan hired Nikita (Maggie Q) to kill the President. Ryan (Noah Bean) becomes suspicious of Birkhoff’s increasingly odd behavior and tells Nikita and Michael that he thinks Amanda may have kidnapped Birkhoff and planted a double on the plane. Meanwhile, the CIA captures Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca) and questions her about her involvement with Nikita. Marc David Alpert directed the episode written by Carlos Coto (#403).
