Nikita held its final panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday with the cast previewing the fourth and final season.

Stars Maggie Q (Nikita), Lyndsy Fonseca (Alex), Shane West (Michael), Aaron Stanford (Birkhoff), Melinda Clarke (Amanda), Noah Bean (Ryan) and creator Craig Silverstein were on hand to celebrate the show and drop hints about what fans can expect in the final six episodes of the series.

The panel opened with a video package, recapping the series in the wake of Percy’s death:

On the series ending

Once the panel began, Silverstein called the final season “bittersweet,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m glad we’re able to end it, give it a full close instead of ending it where it was,” he said, adding, “Knowing it’s going to finish lets us end it, hopefully, with an exclamation mark.”

Q, who will play Tori in the upcoming film adaptation of Divergent, said of the series ending, “My heart hurt because I have a very deep love for [the cast] and I’m going to miss them,” reported Deadline.

“We get to end the show with such integrity and with our heads high,” she added. “I didn’t want it to drag out … I wanted it to go out and have everyone feel full and still a little hungry.”

Previewing the final six

There has been some concern about whether six episodes would be enough to wrap up the third season’s cliffhanger, with Nikita framed for the assassination of the President of the United States.

“What it means is you get right to the good stuff,” Silverstein explained. “You don’t have the slower build-up. That’s how we’re going to start, right in the middle of it and not take our foot off the pedal until the end.”

Silverstein described the fourth season as “the final fight,” and previewed that the final six will explore Nikita’s origins. “What was she like? Where did this all start for her?” But this won’t rehash what we already know about our heroine. “It’s pretty much new stuff,” Silverstein added.

There are also hopes of bringing back favorite Nikita players, like Cyrus, Roman, and Percy, the latter possibly in flashback. “A whole Xander flashback?” Silverstein asked. “I’d love to see it, yeah!” This does not exclude new characters either.

Another character we can expect to return is Owen, who regained his memories as Sam. Silverstein described Owen and Sam, in particular, as “a wild card.”

“There’s no reason for him to be with them except he still wants revenge against Amanda for turning him into a dope for 10 years. There are certain things that bring him back into the team. He’s a very volatile element to have along.”

With the destruction of Division at the end of season 3, there will also be the need for a new safe house. “We’re never gonna top Nikita’s lair from first season, and we knew that,” Silverstein said. “We couldn’t go back to a hideout again and so we’re gonna be in the sky” in an airplane.

The characters

Q said she’s excited to see what’s next for Nikita and Michael. “It was a weird way to leave it,” Q said of Nikita leaving her engagement ring behind. “But it was a decision made purely out of love. I really want to get into it. She left because she loved this man.”

Meanwhile, “Michael may have gotten dark again, especially after the end of Season 3,” West said.

“It’s gonna be a really fun dynamic to play, in a smaller amount of time with the six episodes, but it means it’s even more important. He’s always gonna worry, and he’s always gonna love Nikita, but I think this is really gonna put their relationship to the test.”

Another character to watch out for is Alex. She “has been through a lot,” Fonseca said. “When we first met her she was so young and in a delicate place. We ended last year with the question, ‘What do I do?’

“She doesn’t have to hide from anyone. She is a real person and has a public persona, she’s gonna take advantage of that. But it’s a tricky balance to be a spy by night.”
