The CW has released the synopsis for the ninth episode of Nikita‘s third season, titled “Survival Instincts,” as well as an extended promo for next week’s mid-season premiere.

The official press release had the following information about “Survival Instincts”:

Ray (guest star Matt Bushell), a rogue agent, kidnaps his girlfriend Kate (guest star Anna Hopkins), so Ryan (Noah Bean) dispatches the team to rescue her. Nikita (Maggie Q) is confused when Michael (Shane West) sends Owen into the field with her instead of going himself. Meanwhile, Sean (Dillon Casey) makes a decision about Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca). Aaron Stanford also stars. John Showalter directed the episode written by Albert Kim (#309).

This episode looks like it will continue some potential strain between Nikita and Michael hinted at in the season’s eighth episode, “Aftermath,” in which Nikita and Owen team up to target a rogue cleaner. According to the episode synopsis for “Aftermath,” Michael will take up a new position in Division, which we’re guessing plays into him sending Owen into the field rather than joining Nikita himself.

The CW has also released an extended promo for next week’s mid-season premiere, “Intersection”:

Nikita returns with new episodes on Friday, January 18 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
