While Sherlock fans wait (im)patiently for their favorite detective show to return, the BBC has announced that Nick Hurran will be directing the series 3 finale.

Hurran is well known for his involvement with the Doctor Who franchise, for which he directed the memorable and heart-breaking episode “The Angels Take Manhattan.” This will be the first Sherlock episode that Hurran has been involved with.

Hurran’s experience with directing drama-filled episodes will come in handy, especially when he is tasked with following up arguably the most dramatic series finale to ever grace our TV screens.

Sherlock series 3, epsisode 1 is titled “The Empty Hearse,” while episode 2 is titled “The Sign of Three.” With very little information released about episode 3, it would appear that we are left to speculate what the team of Hurran and Steven Moffat will create for us.

Though this announcement will tide over Sherlock fans for a short while, questions are still being raised about the series 3 air date. Hopefully, with the director chosen, more information will be released soon. Some have speculated that we’ll know the air date once the final episode has wrapped filming.

Are you looking forward to seeing Nick Hurran join the Sherlock team?

News of Hurran’s directing was first reported earlier this year, but the BBC finally confirmed the news Friday.
