The Coen brothers introduced us to George Clooney the goofball in O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and it looks like they might be bringing him back really soon.

Fans who have been following the career of the Coen brothers for some time will likely remember that they had talked about making a film title Hail Caesar all the way back in 2004. It was supposed to be a comedy, and it would supposedly follow O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Intolerable Cruelty in the George Clooney starred “Numskull Trilogy.” Though Burn After Reading follows similar themes, it apparently doesn’t count as Clooney is only a supporting character there.

In an interview with Thompson on Hollywood, the Coen brothers were asked whether or not we’ll ever see Hail Caesar. It appears the interviewer picked the right project to ask about, as the Coen brothers had a very promising reply.

“We’ve been working on that one,” Joel Coen said. “There’s a good chance that would be next.” Ethan Coen added even more info. “It’s about the movie business and life and religion and faith,” Ethan said. “Faith and the movie business. It’s still George.”

The Playlist reminds us that Hail Caesar is “a comedy thought to star George Clooney as a 1920s matinee film idol who takes on an Ancient Rome epic.” The Coens had recently said that they were thinking of making a “sandal movie” next. It would have been odd for them to make an actual ancient Rome set movie as that would probably require a bigger budget than they’re comfortable using. A movie about making a movie like that seems much more likely.

The Coen brothers’ latest movie Inside Llewyn Davis is just beginning its theatrical run. It opened in just four theaters last weekend, and it’ll slowly expand in the coming weeks and months. It’s done very well critically, and it currently holds a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as gracing the top of more than a few best movies of 2013 lists.
