The Newsroom star John Gallagher, Jr. discusses the possibilities of recording an album, and the interesting dynamic between his character Jim Harper and his boss Mackenzie (actress Emily Mortimer).

In an interview with Backstage, John Gallagher, Jr. describes his “secret yearning” to learn more about Jim Harper’s past – we assume this means we won’t be getting any detailed backstory this season. We have also been hoping to get more of the Jim and Mackenzie story, and Gallagher, Jr. shares our curiosity, saying “they’re like an old married couple.”

They have an interesting relationship to me…They finish each other’s sentences and they bicker all the time, but they can’t work or live without each other.

Fans of the actor will also be excited to learn that he has hopes to record an album prior to filming season 2. “That’s something I’d really like to do because I’ve been putting it off for a long time now.” He describes his gratitude for the loyal fans who attend his sporadic concerts, saying “I feel that they are way overdue in deserving a record.” We can’t wait!

The actor also mentions the similarities he sees between working in the theatre and on a show such as The Newsroom, as well his newfound appreciation and understanding for the news. Check out the rest of this great interview for more.
