Rosemarie DeWitt has revealed a few tantalizing details about the character she will be playing on season 2 of Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom. What did she have to say to Hypable?

While speaking to Hypable about her new film Promised Land, DeWitt let slip a few new details about the character she will be playing in The Newsroom season 2. Just don’t tell Aaron Sorkin!

“There’s a big drama going on in the Newsroom that I’m involved in.” When asked if this drama would involve romantic scenes with star Jeff Daniels, DeWitt responded, “I’m crushing him [Daniels]. The company is coming under seige, so I’m there to try to dig them out of the ditch. Am I saying too much?”

It seems DeWitt was under the impression that she had given something away. All we know from her previously released character description is that she will be playing Rebecca Halliday, a litigator hired by ACN to defend the cable network in a multimillion-dollar wrongful termination lawsuit. We’re glad to hear that DeWitt will be featured prominently in scenes with Daniels’ Will McAvoy – and from the sounds of it, putting him in his place. As to what the crisis is, we don’t know. What do you think it could be?

Promised Land is set for release in USA on 4 January 2013.
The Newsroom season 2 will air on HBO in June 2013.

‘The Newsroom’ season 2 casting

In prior casting news, we know that DeWitt will be joined by United States of Tara co-star Patton Oswalt, who will appear as Jonas Pfeiffer, the new Vice President of Human Resources at News Night’s Atlantis Cable Network.

Actress Grace Gummer will join the cast as Hallie Shea, a reporter embedded with the Mitt Romney campaign. Working closely alongside Gummer (we imagine) will be newcomer Joel Johnstone, who is set to play Cameron, a staffer on the Mitt Romney election campaign.
