IMDB has released the credited cast list for The Newsroom 2×01 “First Thing We Do, Let’s Kill All the Lawyers,” and there are some new names on it. So who will be appearing in the season 2 opener of The Newsroom?

New faces on ‘The Newsroom’ season 2

A long list of new names has just appeared on the IMDB cast listing for The Newsroom 2×01. Given that we do not know the level of involvement for these actors yet, or what their role will involve, we can simply list those attached and hope to gain some insight closer to the release of season 2. These could be one-off parts, but as we remember from season 1, these roles can have a way of recurring. But we’ll get to that later.

Patrick Carlyle as Joel
Nick Gehlfuss as Ross Kessler
Anna Khaja as Shannon Hammid
Hamish Linklater as Jerry Dantana
Marque Richardson as Mark Gage
Chuck David Willis as John
Ali Wong as Shelly Wexler

As 2×01 sees the introduction of confirmed recurring stars Rosemarie DeWitt as litigator Rebecca Halliday, Patton Oswalt as Jonas Pfeiffer, the ACN Vice President of Human Resources, and Joel Johnstone as Mitt Romney campaign staffer Cameron, these new actors could be involved in any of these storylines. Or they could be random characters on the street – we will keep you updated as these lists change.

‘The Newsroom’ season 1 stars return

Equally as telling as the new names are those recurring stars who, according to IMDB, will be appearing in this first episode of season 2. Along with the stalwarts including Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer and John Gallagher, Jr., IMDB also lists Jane Fonda and Chris Messina returning as Leona Lansing and her son Reese. Given how The Newsroom season 1 ended up in “The Greater Fool,” we can’t imagine this will be a happy reunion for our favourite team of reporters.

2×01 will also feature recurring star Kelen Coleman as Lisa Lambert, and most interestingly, the return of Riley Voelkel as ‘Sorority Girl’ Jennifer Johnson who first appeared in The Newsroom 2×01 “We Just Decided To,” and was hired by Jeff Daniels’ Will McAvoy in the season finale 2×01 “The Greater Fool.”

The Newsroom season 2 will air on HBO in June 2013.
