The episode titles for The Newsroom 2×01 and 2×02 have been revealed, along with the cast list for 2×01. What were they, and what hints do they give up for the upcoming season?

According to IMDB, The Newsroom 2×01 will be entitled “First Thing We Do, Let’s Kill All the Lawyers,” with 2×02 called “The Genoa Tip.” IMDB has also listed the credited cast for 2×01, but we know this is always subject to change.

‘Newsroom’ 2×01: “First Thing We Do, Let’s Kill All the Lawyers”

So what do the titles mean, anyway? Well “First Thing We Do, Let’s Kill All the Lawyers” seems to be a fairly straightforward reference to the introduction of Rebecca Halliday, a litigator played by Rosemarie DeWitt who is hired by the Atlantis Cable Network to defend it in a multi-million dollar wrongful termination lawsuit.

The particulars of the case are still being kept very quiet by the cast, although DeWitt let slip to Hypable that her character will be “crushing” Jeff Daniels’ Will McAvoy. We also know that 2×01 will feature the introduction of the Occupy Wall Street plot and will be set in approximately September 2011.

DeWitt is credited on IMDB as appearing in 2×01, along with recently announced season 2 co-stars Patton Oswalt and Joel Johnstone. Grace Gummer, who was also confirmed as appearing in season 2, is yet to be listed with a Newsroom credit.

‘Newsroom’ 2×02: “The Genoa Tip”

As for “The Genoa Tip,” we can’t think of a specific news story which has inspired this episode title – can you? Genoa is the capital of Liguria in Italy, as well as being the name of several smaller towns in America. In other 2×02 spoilers, Maggie will be seen confronting blogger Erica, who posts an embarrassing video of her.

The Newsroom season 2 will air on HBO in June 2013.
