Here’s something you may not know about Margaret Judson, who portrays The Newsroom‘s Tess. Not only did Judson audition originally for the role of Maggie, she was recruited straight out of the MSNBC newsroom where Aaron Sorkin researched the series.

Plus – could we have a date for the start of season 2 filming?

In a recent podcast on Geek Nation, Judson discusses the various aspects of her involvement with Sorkin’s The Newsroom. She first met Sorkin while he was researching The Newsroom at MSNBC, where she worked as a research assistant.

Judson says the pair “stayed in touch, and I helped him as a consultant, and then out of the blue I asked for an audition.” There was one character who Judson, who has never acted before, found too “intriguing” to let go, but it wasn’t Tess – it was Maggie. The role was eventually given to Alison Pill, and Judson was cast as Tess.

The actress also lets slip a possible date for season 2 filming. When asked if she was auditioning for other roles prior to beginning filming The Newsroom season 2, she replied “yes, and hopefully we come back in November.” This date has not been officially confirmed, however it gives us our first hint as to when filming will recommence.

Sorkin has already confirmed season 2 will air in June 2013.

Could you see Judson as Maggie, or was Pill the right choice? Would you believe she has never acted before, having seen her on the show?
