The New York Times Bestseller list continues to amaze me. This week’s list is an interesting mix of list regulars and domination by a new writer with an interesting backstory. Then of course there is the children’s list that once again has an interesting combination of titles.

As you can see, the adult combination list is dominated by the Fifty series.  This is an interesting book series as it was first conceived as Twilight fanfiction, and it is also categorized as erotica which usually doesn’t make an appearance on the list.  Over the past few weeks there have been several articles on Fifty Shades of Grey and its success as well as the content.

COMBINED PRINT & E-BOOK FICTION

  1. FIFTY SHADES OF GREY, by E. L. James
  2. FIFTY SHADES DARKER, by E. L. James
  3. FIFTY SHADES FREED, by E. L. James
  4. THE LUCKY ONE, by Nicholas Sparks
  5. THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET’S NEST, by Stieg Larsson

Topping the children’s chapter list is the second installment of the Beyonders series, Seeds of Rebellion. John Green moves down one place with The Fault in Our Stars, while Ransom Riggs remains in the top three.  I have to ask, who is buying this book? Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children has spent 41 weeks on the bestsellers list.  It is such a unique book, and while beautiful in its concept, doesn’t really have mainstream appeal. I find it interesting that it hasn’t left the top ten since its release last summer.

Children’s Chapter Books

  1. SEEDS OF REBELLION, by Brandon Mull
  2. THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, by John Green
  3. MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN, by Ransom Riggs
  4. THE SON OF NEPTUNE, by Rick Riordan
  5. THE INVENTION OF HUGO CABRET, by Brian Selznick

In the series list we see two new entries: Ally Carter’s Gallagher Girls series and Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Chronicles of Nick. The Hunger Games sits atop the list and will most likely for months to come, considering its recent box office domination.

What do you think of this week’s list? Are there books that you think should have made the list? There is at least one I am surprised didn’t make the series list.  Tell us what you think!
