In the last month very little has changed on the Children’s Chapter Book list.  Rick Riordan has held three spots in the top ten and the only new book to join the list in December was Clockwork Prince. This week we finally have a debut author crack the top ten.

You may have heard of Cinder by Marissa Meyer.  It was highly publicized prior to its debut on January 3rd.  Cinder is an unusual book in that the story line is something completely different in the young adult world. Cinder is a reworking of Cinderella with a sci-fi twist.  This book is action packed with cyborgs, mysteries, and intergalactic battles.  It’s a refreshing read in a land filled with dystopian and paranormal books.  Cinder cracked the top ten landing at #10 but is this a sign of more books being able to take on Rick Riordan’s dominance? Next week will be very interesting as it will be the first week that both The Fault in Our Stars and A Million Suns are eligible to make the list.    Will we finally see some new books make the top 10? I hope so.
