The Jumanji reboot sees a group of modern teens sucked into a video game and forced to play their way through the jungle.

The board game from the original has been put on the shelf, but not so fast! It has other ways of luring in unsuspecting youths…

Starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black as the adult in-game avatars for the kids, the Jumanji reboot has received a fair bit of early criticism — both for the (intentionally) stereotypical design of the characters and for the fact that it exists at all. (Although since it’s not an all-female reboot, I predict there won’t be any boycotts for this one, hmm?)

However, with the trailers rolling out, the movie might start to pick up more buzz. Baggage and the lack of Robin Williams aside, this looks like a fun Christmas comedy for the whole family. Or, it might be another Pixels. Time will tell!

In a brand new Jumanji adventure, the tables are turned as four teenagers are sucked into Jumanji’s world – pitted against rhinos, black mambas and an endless variety of jungle traps and puzzles. To survive, they’ll play as characters from the game: meek Spencer becomes a braveexplorer (Dwayne Johnson); hulky jock Fridge becomes a tiny genius (Kevin Hart); It-girl Bethany becomes a bookworm professor (Jack Black); and unathletic Martha becomes an amazonian warrior (Karen Gillan). To beat the game and return to the real world with their lives, they’ll have to start seeing things in an entirely different way.”

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle hits theaters on December 20, 2017.
