Hugh Jackman may be headed to the Oscars for Les Miserables this weekend, but today, another picture of Jackman in The Wolverine has hit the web.

The image below was released via The Wolverine’s official Facebook page along with this message: “The past is always behind you, but the memories still remain.” We’re intrigued and look forward to seeing what Hugh Jackman has for us in his next Wolverine film. The Wolverine hits theaters on July 26, 2013, and also stars Will Yun Lee (Die Another Day), Hiroyuki Sanada (LOST), Brian Tee (Fun With Dick and Jane), Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Svetlana Khodchenkova (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy). Check out the official image below:

Check out the official synopsis of the film:

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

Also recently released was The Wolverine’s movie poster, as well as some other great pictures of Jackman in the new film.

Update: Thanks to Hypable reader Mathew Potter, it’s been pointed out that Hugh Jackman is standing in front of something that may very well be an integral part of the film’s story. The reader pointed out in the comments below that the Japanese text which is partially shown behind Jackman says “Rocketto.” We don’t quite know much about this film’s plot other than it takes place in modern day Japan. Could Wolverine be attempting to prevent a nuclear war of some sort? We wouldn’t put it past the studio to have Wolverine single-handedly preventing a World War after what we saw in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Unfortunately he couldn’t prevent that catastrophe).
