The newest trailer of The Lighthouse gives us stars Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe engaging in an increasingly deranged battle of whats.

Robert Pattinson is set to become the new face of one of DC’s biggest franchise heroes as the star of Matt Reeves’ upcoming superhero solo film The Batman, while Willem DaFoe will reprise his role as mentor to Jason Momoa’s Aquaman in the follow-up sequel to DCEU’s first billion-dollar grossing movie about the underwater superhero.

However, before heading into the superpowered, mega-budget superhero fray, both actors are starring in the smaller budget psychological horror film The Lighthouse, Robert Eggers’ highly-anticipated and critically well-received follow-up to his break-out horror hit, The Witch.

Following the premiere of The Lighthouse at Cannes Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), RT Features and movie studio A24 have released the new trailer for the film, which continues to highlight both the performances of the film’s stars and the slow slide into madness and terror in the film.

Filmed in 35mm black-and-white stock equipment from the 1920s and 1940s, The Lighthouse tells the story of two lighthouse keepers who must tend to a lighthouse on an isolated and mysterious New England Island in the 1890s.

Willem Dafoe plays Thomas Wake, an experienced and aging lighthouse keeper, while Robert Pattinson plays Ephraim Winslow, a first-time lighthouse keeper with secrets of his own. The film follows the two during their four-week tenure at the lighthouse, during which they come to distrust, hate and obsess over one another.

The Lighthouse premiered at Cannes Film Festival and TIFF to high acclaim, with critics praising both DaFoe and Pattinson’s performances and the film’s study of isolation, madness and horror.

The film was co-written by Robert Eggers and Max Eggers and directed by Robert Eggers. It will open for audiences nationwide on October 18.
