Supernatural showrunner Jeremy Carver speaks about the changes he’s planning to make following Sera Gamble’s run.

Speaking to TV Line, Carver opens up about Sera Gamble’s seasons, saying that while he was impressed with the work she and executive producer Robert Singer did, “The show got a little bit buried under its mythology.”

He goes into some of the problems he had with season 7 in particular:

It became a little hard to tell exactly what was going on at times. The longtime fans all deserve intricate plot, but it felt a little burdensome.

Carver also teases what we can expect in season 8: a flashback, which fans will “hopefully appreciate the magnitude of.” He’s also planning to reset the mythology of the series, and to see the brothers deal with the fact that they’ve matured tremendously since they first started working together again eight years ago.

Eric Kripke, the original showrunner of Supernatural, seems optimistic about Carver’s return to the show after working on Being Human. He says:

I love that Jeremy came back. He learned the family business, went off, and now has come back to the family business – just like Sam!
