CBS has released a video featuring the main members of the Supergirl cast talking about their characters.

Melissa Benoist (Kara Davers/Supergirl), Calista Flockhart (Cat Grant), Mechad Brooks (James Olsen), and Jeremy Jordan (Winn Schott) are joined by executive producers Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg in the discussion of the Supergirl cast.

Watch the video, which also features footage from the pilot, below:

“I know the show is called Supergirl, but it’s so much more than that,” Benoist says. “Every character has things they’re hiding. They have their own stories, and I’m having so much fun exploring all of them.”

Adler reveals that Benoist was the first actress to audition for Kara, and though they saw a thousand more actresses after her, “she never left our hearts.”

Brooks and Jordan also describe Benoist as a person as being both Supergirl and a super girl.

Flockhart describes her character as “funny, uncompromising, unapologetic, and narcissistic” and says she loves playing her. Berlanti, meanwhile, says he begged Flockhart to join the Supergirl world, “and she listened.”

Brooks says that James Olsen is there “to help Kara come out of her skin and reach her potential.”

“He has a lot more to offer than he’s ever sort of allowed himself,” Jordan says of Winn Schott. With Kara revealing her secret to him, “he’s learning sort of to explore his potential as well.”

Kreisberg reveals that he’s most excited for the relationship between the Danvers sisters, Kara and Alex (Chyler Leigh). “Alex would be the star of her own show if her sister wasn’t Supergirl,” he says.

The producers also preview the DEO, which hunts aliens, and its leader, Hank Henshaw, played by David Harewood.

Brooks adds that in a short period of time, the cast has become very close. And Berlanti says this is one of the best casts he’s ever worked with.

Supergirl premieres Monday, October 26 at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
