Gotta catch ’em all… in the real world! The Pokémon Company announced a new game coming to iPhone and Android next year, and it looks very fun.

Pokémon GO will let users capture, trade, and battle against other players when they come across a player or a Pokémon in the real world. In addition to checking the area for Poké-fun using your phone, the game will use your device’s GPS and an optional accessory to alert you to new Pokémon or challengers in the area.

“Travel between the real world and the virtual world of Pokémon with Pokémon GO for iPhone and Android devices!” Nintendo writes. “With Pokémon GO, you’ll discover Pokémon in a whole new world–your own! Pokémon GO will use real location information to encourage players to search far and wide in the real world to discover Pokémon.”

A trailer for Pokémon GO does a great job of showing this game’s potential. In fact, you may have to remind yourself that you won’t actually see the Pokémon IRL:

The trailer suggests that to capture new Pokémon you’ll have to get close to the actual location of where the creature is hanging out. You’ll also have access to a variety of Pokéballs and other items to assist in capturing and battling.

The developers realize you won’t want to miss any Pokémon while you’re out and about, so they’ve created a new device you can wear that’ll alert you to nearby Pokémon.

“Pokémon GO Plus will enable Pokémon GO players to enjoy the game even when they’re not looking at their smartphone. The device connects to the smartphone via Bluetooth and notifies the player about events in the game–such as the appearance of a Pokémon nearby–using an LED and vibration. In addition, players can catch Pokémon or perform other simple actions by pressing the button on the device,” they write.

The device looks like this:

The trailer appears to confirm that Pokémon GO will feature the original 150 creatures that debuted in the series, which is sure to entice those who were fans in the ’90s and early ’00s.

Pokémon GO will be released next year. Meanwhile, Nintendo is working on their own mobile game, which is expected to be on iPhone and Android by the end of 2015.
