In another new Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters clip, we get our first solid look at a beautiful hippocampus.

The video is via CBM.

The clip shows Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson trying to get to a ship out in the middle of the ocean, which is presumably Luke’s Princess Andromeda. Annabeth reluctantly suggests swimming, but Tyson has a better idea: Why not just ask Poseidon?

He ventures down to the water and asks his father for help. As soon as he reaches his hand into the ocean, we see something approaching in the distance. Annabeth tells us exactly what it is: A hippocampus.

The creature approaches and jumps right out of the water in front of the trio. The CGI on this shot is absolutely gorgeous, and has to be one of the better depictions of mythological creatures in the movie.

We also get a funny scene between Tyson and the hippocampus, which is presumably Rainbow, as Tyson accidentally calls him a ‘her.’ Rainbow snorts water all over Tyson, who corrects himself as Percy and Annabeth look on.

Tyson turns to Percy and says that he only needs to ask for what he wants. Percy says that he has, and that all he’s been doing is asking. The relationship between demigod and godly parent is at the forefront of the story for Sea of Monsters, and it looks like that theme will be carried throughout the film.

This is one of the biggest scenes we’ve gotten on Tyson so far, as well. His child-like quality and naivete is apparent here, as well as Percy’s reluctance to be as hopeful and optimistic as his brother.

Earlier today we got some insight into what Anthony Stewart Head did in order to bring Chiron to life and if he felt any pressure about replacing Pierce Brosnan.

What do you think of the hippocampi in ‘Sea of Monsters’?
