Noah hits theaters Friday and there’s been loads of controversy concerning the film’s subject matter. Find out how the producers hoped to please believers and nonbelievers.

In the latest featurette “Biblical Accuracy” the film’s crew explains how they took the short story of Noah and turned it into a two hour and twenty minute epic. Watch the new featurette and clip below:

While the flood may appear to be the climax of Noah, from early reviews it appears as though there will be some major battles between Noah and and the rest of the world as they try to save themselves from the flood.

Though the new footage from director Darren Aronofsky’s latest film continues to feel rather epic, early reviews suggest there will be a much more intimate story leading up to the highly anticipated finale.

Noah has Aronofsky at the helm and he is a brilliant director, so we aren’t too concerned either with the controversy over the film’s message or potential changes from the source material. The film began at around 65% on Rottentomatoes and now it’s up to 75%. It’s unusual to see a film move up after reviews start to come in, but we imagine the film will be somewhat polarizing.

The story centers around the title character’s mission to save his family after seeing visions of an inevitable apocalypse. Director Darren Aronofsky and Russell Crowe have promised an edgier take on the biblical tale.

We’re excited to see what this caliber of director is able to do with the tale of Noah. Aronofsky’s most recent film, Black Swan, went on to grab an Academy Award for Natalie Portman’s brilliant portrayal of a disturbed ballerina.

Noah is set to hit theaters March 28, 2014.
