The New Nintendo Switch has the same retail price as the original Switch, and is well worth the upgrade if you’re a portable video game player.
If you’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on getting the home console/portable hybrid, the New Nintendo Switch model may just convince you to make the purchase.
If you’ve played a Nintendo Switch, you may have noticed that the console will often heat up a noticeable amount during your portable gaming sessions. Not to mention the fact that the console always seems to die just as you’re about to reach the next exciting part of Breath of the Wild or Super Mario Odyssey. Now, the New Switch model presents the following solutions.
As reported by Nintendo Life, the New Switch model aesthetically looks the same, but is housing much different hardware inside that not only improves the console’s portable battery life from 6.5 hours to 9 hours max, but also keeps the Switch cooler.
It’s a tempting deal to pay the same MSRP for a much improved Nintendo Switch, and Gamestop* is sweetening the deal all the more with an added trade-in bonus for your old Switch. It seems like a no brainer, and may even solve the issues relating to your drifting Joy-Cons. Their trade-in special lasts until September 15, 2019 and would potentially bring the cost of the New Nintendo Switch model down to a measly $75.
If you’re not sure how to ensure you’re getting the New Switch model, you can do one of two things: check that the box has a design with much more red on it (see below, right), or check to see that the console’s serial number on the bottom of the box starts with “XKW.”
The transfer process between two Nintendo Switch models is done completely via Bluetooth. As Nintendo details, both consoles need to be connected to the internet (to login to the user account’s linked Nintendo profile), and be in the same approximate vicinity to one another. The updated console model is currently seeing a “quiet” release in the United States.
