New Mutants will reunite The Fault in Our Stars writers with Director Josh Boone for the brand new X-Men project.

We learned in May of last year that Director Josh Boone was taking on a new project in the X-Men spinoff New Mutants. We also reported that Boone will co-write the film’s script with Knate Gwaltney.

Thursday saw the announcement by The Hollywood Reporter that The Fault in Our Stars writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber are also working on the script for the new movie.

New Mutants news has been fairly quiet in the past year or so, but one would hope this is because the team has been diligently working on the script to ensure it’s as strong of an X-Men installment as they can possibly make it.

The addition of Neustadter and Weber undoubtedly means they’re entering into additional updates to the script, which can only help the cause. The duo obviously did wonders for Fault in Our Stars, as well as The Spectacular Now, which they also worked on together.

As for Boone, he will be directing The Vampire Chronicles (based on the Anne Rice novel) and The Stand (based on the Stephen King novel). His involvement with Lisey’s Story has also been announced.

Of New Mutants, THR also says, “The movie will focus on the angst-driven adventures of a diverse group of teens that include Native American Danielle Moonstar, Scots girl Wolfsbane, Brazilian ladies man Sunspot, a Kentuckian code-named Cannonball, and Russian teen Magik. Also in the mix will be an alien named Warlock.”

It’s no wonder Fox is tapping Boone, Neustadter, and Weber to polish up the New Mutants film, which is already promising to have a different vibe from the other X-Men movies as it follows the story of these young mutants who struggle with their powers.
